Yet another perfect day for climbing – cool breeze drifting through the woods and just enough sun to keep things comfortable. Mount Yonah really delivers that mix of hiking, beginner-friendly climbing, and rewarding views at the top.
We kicked things off at the Lowers, setting up a handful of top ropes on routes in the 5.4–5.8 range. Approachable climbs, perfect for newer folks getting mileage in, while still fun for everyone else to cruise. Lots of good movement and a relaxed vibe all around. Big shoutout to our group leaders, Billy and Sam, who walked us through rappelling—breaking things down clearly and making sure everyone felt solid before going for it. After a few practice runs, we got to actually put those skills to use on real top rope setups, which made it all click.
Later in the day, we made our way over to the main faces for some slab climbing. Classic Yonah style – trust your feet, stay balanced, and keep it smooth. The friction was great, and the routes offered a nice step up without feeling overwhelming.
We also made an effort to pack out trash we came across and stick to Leave No Trace principles. A few local climbers noticed, which was a nice reminder that it matters. To cap it off, the send chain went to Max for picking up a full set of new skills – rappelling, lead belaying, leading, and following on a multipitch. Well earned.
All in all, just a really solid day out. Good weather, good people, and a mix of climbing that works for all levels. Mount Yonah continues to be one of those spots where you can learn, push yourself a bit, and still keep things fun and low-pressure.
