This year the ACC has planned a trip down the Hiwassee River for the summer event. The river trip is a 5.5 mile section with Class I shoals, one Class II drop and a wave train. There are plenty of videos available on YouTube showing the river conditions.
There is accommodation available, and some will be staying both Friday and Saturday night at the Hiwassee Outfitters. Accommodation options include camping, cabins and a bunk house. From ATL it is possible to complete the trip without camping, or camping only one of the two nights.
Hiwassee Outfitters is located on the river and has raft, kayaks and tubes available for rental. They offer a shuttle service (which is included in boat rental) to the put-in up river. The 5.5 mile trip ends back at their grounds. The float time varies from 2-5 hours depending on how many people are in the group and how often you stop. The Hiwassee is dam released with river conditions available after 11am. You will notice the earliest shuttle available from the outfitter is 11am.
The trip is open to all; club members, family and friends.
WHEN: August 24th, 2013 (Camping the night of 8/23 and 8/24).
CAMPING: For those camping we will make an effort to get sites next to each other once the time gets closer. Those who want a cabin or bunk house, reserve and organize individually.
RESERVATIONS: Reservations are recommended but not required. Depending on interest of the group, we may try and organize a group dinner on Saturday night at one of the camp grounds.
